SELECTED PROJECT:
Greek Orthodox Church
Completed in 2001 in Tallahassee, Florida
with a Construction Cost of $900,000. The Greek Orthodox Church
in Tallahassee struggled for years to plan their annual Greek
Food Festival around their existing facilities; a glorified
catering kitchen, an 85-seat hall and a big tent. When it was
realized how these old, cramped facilities were limiting their
fundraising ability, they asked Johnson Peterson Architects
to design a new Fellowship Hall (capable of seating 300, banquet
style) and a commercial grade kitchen large enough to feed
several thousand people at the Food Festival.
The Kitchen includes a steam heated serving line with roll-up
windows, large walk-in freezers and refrigerator; hooded fry
stations and convection ovens as well as extensive stainless
steel lay out counters and dry storage.
The Fellowship Hall and Restrooms not only accommodate the
constant “turning of tables” but also includes
acoustic treatment and a major sound system. Because the Church
desired a warm and refined space, they opted for an exposed
glue lamwood structure with tongue and grove wood deck.
Because the larger, more efficient facilities have allowed
the Greek Church to increase their annual profit, the entire
new addition could be paid off in only eight years!
