FEATURED PROJECT:

Fire Station No.7, City of Tallahassee

The design of this prototype fire station was unanimously approved by the area homeowners' association which saved the City of Tallahassee 60 days of anticipated approval time. Through the use of building materials common to the area and residential scale, the overall appearance blends well into the neighborhood it protects. The wood frame structure is sheathed in brick veneer and fiberglass shingles. Passive energy systems were integrated throughout the structure and site; for instance, Johnson/Peterson Architects used clerestory windows to illuminate the apparatus bay. This one bay fire station has a kitchen, ready room, captain's office, ample storage areas, separate women's and men's bunkroom and baths, and a semi-circular outdoor patio with a "key-hole" privacy wall. Fire Station No. 7 was completed on time and within the construction budget of $400,000.
