FEATURED PROJECT:
Florida State University Parking Garage and Bookstore
This 1,008 car, multi-level parking garage
is located in the heart of Florida State University. The surrounding
buildings provide well defined contextual parameters which
encouraged the use of brick and low rises massing. The project
included 40,000 sf of retail space, comprised of the university
bookstore as well as office spaces for the Business Services
Department. User safety was a key issue in its design as well
as energy efficient lighting, one-way vehicle circulation,
visually open stairwells and consideration for future closed
circuit television surveillance cameras. Other issues included
pedestrian circulation around the structure, protection of
several century oaks, disabled access and retail visibility.
The large scale of the structure was played down through the
use of dynamic perspective, proportion, human scale elements
and the detailing of materials at the pedestrian level.
