Governor’s Park: Cummings & Lawrence Offices and Florida Transportation Builders Association
The site of DeSoto’s first Christmas
was actually discovered when this property was being prepared
for foundation construction. After state archeologists thoroughly
sifted the ground, construction was resumed a year later. These
two carefully sited office buildings were designed to quietly
compliment the historic Governor Martin house occupying the
rear of the property. While the detailing pays homage to the
historic brick structure, these two buildings create their
own distinctive dignity as sentinels to the Governor’s
lodge beyond. Each of the new structures is approximately 5,000
sf, one occupied by the Florida Transportation Builders, the
other by the Cummings Law Firm. Both were completed in 1988.
