SELECTED PROJECT:
Alachua Regional Service Center
The Florida Department of Management Services,
Division of Building Construction, offers state agencies three
prototype office buildings, (65K, 80K, 100K SF), which can
be constructed anywhere in Florida. After several years of
experience, it became apparent to DMS that there was a demand
for an even smaller prototype; one that could be built in smaller
towns, usually for “district” offices of large
state agencies. Johnson Peterson Architects was selected to
design this prototype based on their extensive experience in
innovative public sector buildings. This new prototype is 27,000
GSF in size, but can be clustered where more than one is needed.
The materials are durable and low maintenance. The floor plan
reflects the need for flexibility in tenant size and access.
Continuous modular windows allow a variety of office size and
configuration. Central communications rooms provide the infrastructure
for present and future technology. Although the envelope design
will feel comfortable in almost any context in Florida, the
entry pavilion may be adapted to unique local design contexts
as desired. The initial two editions of this prototype have
been constructed as the Alachua Regional Service Center in
Alachua, Florida near Gainesville.
