FEATURED PROJECT:

Woman's Club of Tallahassee

Because of our extensive experience in preservation and restoration projects, Johnson/Peterson Architects was selected by the Woman’s Club of Tallahassee for the procurement of its state grant and the restoration of its National Register Clubhouse. The 5,600 SF Clubhouse with its Mediterranean Revival Style, featuring a large, gracious banquet hall with a stage, commercial kitchen, and other auxiliary social spaces was in need of a facelift and code upgrades. Our task was to take this historically sensitive building (1927) and retrofit it with modern electrical and lighting systems, HVAC and plumbing fixtures, and new commercial kitchen appliances, along with provisions for compliance with ADA accessibility codes. Additionally, our scope included the extensive cleaning, repair and replacement of the Spanish tile roof; the repair of stucco and plaster cracks; refinishing of the heart pine floors and restoration of the building’s original color scheme. The result is one of Tallahassee’s most gracious venues for social functions, now preserved for future generations to enjoy. Johnson Peterson was awarded the 2005 Tallahassee/Leon County Historic Preservation Award for this project.
