FEATURED PROJECT:
Designed and built under the direction of
the Florida Department of Health for the Leon County Health
Department, the Southside Health Clinic consolidates several
community services under one roof, in a part of Tallahassee
undergoing significant redevelopment. In addition to a health
clinic, the building houses Social Services offices and facilities
for the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program, including
a large classroom. Off the central waiting room is a 3,000
square foot multi-purpose room for Health Department and community
use, intended as a “home” for the Tallahassee Boys’ Choir.
Of equal concern in the design were the security of the building
and its forty-person staff, as well as the convenience, comfort
and dignity of its clients. Economically constructed of load-bearing
masonry with a steel-framed roof, the single-story building
is sensitive to the single-family residential character of
the emerging neighborhood around it.
